California Gov. Jerry Brown signed into a law earlier this month a bill that would raise the minimum wage to $15 by 2022.
Jaspreet Sethi, the owner of
Leilani Shave Ice who currently has several school-age employees, said “this would definitely affect me hiring teenagers; I would choose to hire more older people.”
He also mentioned that this would affect his business by “making [Sethi] products higher than usual.”
While business owners are more concerned about this change, employees are excited.
Lairra Aquino (’16), who currently works at Papaya Clothing, looks forward to the increase.
“I never thought that $15 an hour was possible,” Aquino said.
