Hadestown

Playwright: Anaïs Mitchell

Release Date: May 6, 2016

Song: “Epic I”

After singing an old song from his youth, Orpheus reminisces the story behind it. Hades, the god of the underworld, fell in love with Persephone. He took her back to the underworld where they would be married. But one issue arises, she is the goddess of vegetation and without her above, the earth dies. Hades made a deal that for half of the year she would live with him in their kingdom and the other half she would spend on earth. The earth was renewed and so was their love.
